This is the seventh and last chapter of our seven week journey into the realm of chakras (energy centers) and what we can do to balance them and their corresponding emotional issues.
Crown Chakra (Sahasrara, 7th Chakra)
- Sanskrit Derivation: Sahasrara (thousand-petaled)
- Color: Violet or white
- Physical Location: Top of the head
- Element: Beyond elements
- Emotion: Compassion, awakening, vision, unity, truth
Crown Chakra Opportunities and Obstacles
- Humble (Opportunity) / Egotistic (Obstacle)
- Honors diverse life paths (Opportunity) / Believes only in their chosen path (Obstacle)
- Feels at one with all beings (Opportunity) / Forgetting others needs (Obstacle)
- Feels guided by divine spirit (Opportunity) / Guided by their own spirt/enlightenment (Obstacle)
- Does not fear death (Opportunity) / Fears death (Obstacle)
The crown chakra is source of where we can feel that connection to spirit and embody a greater sense of fellowship with all beings. This relationship opens us up to honoring all people and sentient beings. In our world of instant global connection via the internet, it’s far too easy to pass judgment on others from seeing their world through inadequate snapshots of their lives. Yet we can utilize this same technology to research what we don’t know and learn more.
This energy center is beyond all of the other elements and it invites us to take a universal look and approach to life; here is where we move beyond the self and turn to spirit for guidance and illumination. To nurture this relationship, we will work with some affirmations to solidify this channel. Go outside and sit in a comfortable position; ground yourself and feel your crown chakra opening and the light from it reaching to the heavens. Take a few, deep calming breaths and once you feel ready recite these affirmations to yourself:
- I am connected to the divine
- I live in the present moment
- I honor all others
Reflect on how you can do these things more in each day. To start with, how do you connect with the divine; is it reserved only for a special day of the week or times of the year? I encourage you to create a daily relationship with the divine that speaks to you whether that is through prayer, meditation or offerings. How you begin each morning sets the tone for the rest of the day. Before you rush off to get ready for things to begin, stop a moment and give thanks for waking up and welcome the spirit to journey with you that day. Stop periodically and check in to see if the spirit is moving you to do something in particular and follow through. Maybe you’re losing focus of the present moment and are getting anxious. Stop a moment and try breathing exercises or meditation to ground yourself and let go of what’s bothering you.
Honoring others includes all living creatures’ great and small as well as the earth. If we honor them, we will not stand lightly for injustices to be done against them. Many people think of how they can do anything to make a noticeable change. One example is Xiuhtezcatl Martinez who is a young indigenous climate change activist and in 2015, he and other plaintiffs filed a lawsuit against the US government to “protect our generations from the effects of climate change”. While this may seem extreme to many, it is Xiuhtezcatl’s passion to, “fight for what it is we believe in.” Maybe you’d rather make a difference locally but doing something just as important. Organize a cleanup project of a particular area and remove garbage or abandoned items. Seeing the fruits of one’s labor makes everyone feel good and take pride in a job well done!
It’s hard to believe how quickly our seven week journey has gone by and I have to say it has been just as informative for me as I hope it’s been for you! One last tidbit I’d like to leave you is the thought of how our lives can reflect the progress within the chakras. There are those that believe we progress through each of the chakras in seven year blocks. From birth to seven we are in the root chakra stage and so on from there. Once we finish the crown chakra, some believe that we start all over again while others believe we stay in the seventh chakra from the age of 43 and beyond. Included are links of two detailed cycles for you to check out.
If any of these balancing ideas have moved you, I would love to hear about it! Leave me a message on the post or email me directly.
Until next time, stay tuned for our next journey.
