The solar plexus is the seat of our personal power and the confidence. Many of us have grown up to learn that we were either personality type A, B, C or D with each having their pros and cons and now there is the theory of 16 personality types. While we may naturally fall into certain types, the overall idea is being balanced and healthy in regards to self and how we interact with others.
With fire being the element of this energy center, it represents our power and the warrior within us. Think of the honor bound warrior of olden days where they embraced their confidence and abilities, yet it was tempered with humbleness and respect.
For the matter of confidence, create a ritual for yourself by gathering a candle and a mirror and choosing a quite place in your home for this. Position the mirror a little ways behind the candle so you can see its reflection as well as yours. Light the wick and take a moment to give thanks to the fire element and the incredible energy it emits. Sit comfortably and center yourself in the present. Once you feel ready look at yourself in the mirror and repeat these affirmations aloud while looking in to your own eyes.
- I am confident
- I am strong and courageous
- I embrace my personal power
Feel each statement and allow it to resonate within your solar plexus, letting the energy of the flame ignite the warrior that is always inside you. You are creating new pathways of personal belief and as such, it takes dedication and repetition for these changes to occur. Once you’re ready to close the ritual, thank the fire element for lending its energy and blow it out.
If you don’t have time for the full session, light a tealight candle and mentally go through the affirmations as you go about your day.
Just as we need to exercise the mind, the warrior also needs to exercise the body. Some people accompany their exercise with loud, motivating music. However, it’s important to have times when we’re not inundated with noise and stimulation. One beautiful practice just about anyone can do is Tai Chi. Tai Chi aids in quieting the mind so we can actually hear ourselves and be aware of things in this moment, free of distractions. Yes it is a martial art, but other key factors involved are meditation, breathing techniques and visualization. This practice is gentle on the body and helps to aid in increased flexibility.
Dr. Paul Lam, of the Tai Chi for Health Institute, has an excellent website on how to start with this practice. He also has a YouTube page of videos and one specifically for beginners. It’s well thought out and clearly explained and demonstrated. As you get started keep in mind what Dr. Lam comment, “It’s better to learn fewer movements well, than rushing through too many. …more and quicker is not necessarily better.”
Now that we’ve covered three of the Chakra’s and you have some new balancing ideas, give one or all of them a try this week and see how you feel. This balancing is laying the groundwork of support for the final four chakras and your overall wellness.
Until next time, stay tuned for the next chapter in our Chakra journey.
