The Magic of Tea Leaves

When I say the magic of tea leaves, I’m talking about the many benefits that tea can provide; not necessarily that there’s a symbol for love in the dregs of your cup.  Tea is packed with antioxidant, anti-aging, anti-inflammatory, antiviral and antibacterial benefits that are good for your skin.

For any of the following remedies, all you need is black tea bags and water.

One particular tea remedy I’ve used over and over is for an itchy or goopy eye.  Instead of punishing your eye by rubbing it furiously or shoving a tissue into the delicate skin; use a tea bag compress.  This compress can also be used to ease the pain of Pinkeye.

Yucky Eye Recipe

  • Immerse a tea bag in hot water until it is soaked through then remove
  • Gently squeeze the excess water out of the bag
  • Once the tea bag has cooled enough to tolerate, apply it to your closed eyelid for about 5 minutes (I wear contacts and this has not caused any issues for me)
  • Repeat for the other eye using a fresh tea bag

Stinky Feet Recipe

  • In a large bowl, add enough hot water to cover your feet no higher than your ankles and add 5-6 tea bags
  • Let the tea steep for 10 minutes then remove the tea bags
  • Once the water has cooled enough to tolerate, soak feet in the tea water for 15-20 minutes
  • Completely dry the feet after soaking
  • This can be done daily or as desired

Sunburn Recipe

  • To bath water, add 3-4 tea bags
  • Soak as normal, letting the tea sooth sunburned skin

Nicks and Bruises Recipe

  • Soak a tea bag in warm water
  • Gently squeeze the excess water out of the bag
  • Apply to any minor nicks or bruises (as well as injection sites from blood work, inoculations or medicines) for a few minutes

These remedies are by no means the limit of what can be done with tea.  There is a host of other benefits and uses that can be had from green, white and herbal teas.  If you’re interested in reading tea leaves, I’ve heard of someone called Sybill Trelawney that may be able to assist you.
